The Weekender: August 21 - 23

Happy weekend! Can you feel that hint of fall in the air? Windows are open, AC is off, and we actually needed a fleece for the morning walk today. It’s enough to make you slow down and appreciate these warm sunny days before they fade away, and we’re planning to soak it all up this weekend.

What do you have planned? Here’s a few ideas:

Around Town-01.png

Radici + [farmacy] at Mean Max: Just heard that Radici has created an exclusive menu that you can only get at the Mean Max taproom! Sign us up for a pint paired with their amazing fried chicken and mac and cheese. And did you know that they serve food from the fine folks at [farmacy] too?! Hellooo lobster rolls! Details here

Feeder Canal Alliance Canoe & Kayak Race: As with most things this year, the race has gone “virtual”! So, you can paddle or run the five mile route along the canal, or you may paddle, run, or bike a 5 mile distance anywhere you like and submit your entry for the race. Whichever way you complete the race, don’t forget to register online - your $15 donation supports the Feeder Canal Alliance and its educational programming along the canal. Details here!

Sunflower Festival: Not sure about you, but we could totally use a sunny afternoon strolling in a field of sunflowers. Liberty Ridge Farm down in Schaghticoke (about a 45 minute drive) is having their Sunflower Festival this weekend (and next weekend, too!), and you can do just that. Limited tickets available - grab yours online here!

at home-01.png

UNO: We’ve had a random deck of UNO cards sitting in our side table on the back porch for at least three years. We pulled them out a few weeks ago, and once we looked up the rules (we’re a little out of practice), we’ve had a blast playing round after round on weekend evenings with a cocktail. Whether it’s UNO or not, highly recommend hiding your phone for a while and playing a good old fashioned board or card game.

Have a great weekend!

The Weekender: August 14 - 16

How are you all doing? Hope you had a great week. The weather the next couple of days looks so nice, and we’re hoping to squeeze in a dinner out downtown, the farmers market, and maybe a couple of these:

Glens Falls NY

Around Town-01.png

Date Night: In case you missed it, Common Roots launched their artisan stone hearth pizzas to go this week (and we took a first look here)! A 4-pack and a couple of pizzas sounds like the perfect back porch take out date night to us. Details here. Cheers!

Small Town Bookstores: We shared a list of favorite local bookstores last summer around this time, and we’re feeling that same urge to pick up a few new books as we inch closer to back to school season. If you’re up for a ride into Washington County and a wander through a sweet bookstore (or barn!), we updated the list with the latest COVID-19 changes for the shops - check them out here

northbound-01.png

Corn Maze: We don’t usually think of corn mazes until fall, but Fort Ticonderoga just opened theirs and it seems like the perfect summer adventure. Fort Ticonderoga itself is amazing (check out our post on the highlights here) - don’t leave without a stroll (and a picnic!) in the King’s Garden! Details here.

Round the Lake: Have you heard of the Lake George Land Conservancy’s Round the Lake Challenge? A friend just mentioned it to us and we thought it sounded like an awesome family friendly way to get outside, see the sights, and get some exercise while we still have a few months of warm weather this year. Some of the “missions”, as they’re called, include hiking, paddling, visiting museums and historical sights, and more - check out the details here

Have a great weekend!

The Weekender: August 7 - 9

Hi guys! Happy weekend! Anything fun on the agenda? We’ve got the usuals on the to-do list: farmers market, baking, yard work, back porch drinks… but we’re also hoping to squeeze in a ride in the Wagoneer if we can manage to get it out of the shop, along with one or two of these ideas:

IMG_1149-2.jpg
Around Town-01.png

Live Music: Patio season is in full swing and we’re psyched to see some live music on the menu again this weekend at some of our favorite spots. Morgan & Co has Mark Tolstrup tonight and Tim Ortiz on Friday night, and Doc’s Restaurant has their popular Patio Sessions with Paul Lambert on Saturday - where are you headed?

Canal Street Marketplace: Too late to check it out tonight, but mark your calendars for next Thursday for Fort Edward’s Canal Street Marketplace from 4-7pm. Hoping to scoop up some sweet corn, sunflowers, and maybe a mini pie or two from Auntie Mame’s Pies! Find the details here.

Vineyard with a View: We’re always up for a drive in the country, especially when it ends with a glass of wine amongst the vines on a blue sky day. Victory View Vineyard’s Farm Winery in Easton has been on our list for a while, and this might just be the weekend to check it out! Details here

Flower Farms: Our backyard zinnias are doing..eh, just okay..so when we saw a couple of flower farms on Instagram this week, they stopped our scroll. If you’re up for some fresh air and a stroll through a field of flowers to pick your own or grab a fresh cut bouquet, check out Native Farm Flowers in Greenfield Center or Balet Flowers in Saratoga… And if sunflowers are your thing, we saw that Bowman Orchards in Rexford has pick your own sunflowers! Any other local flower farms that we should know about?!

Have a great weekend!

The Weekender: July 31 - August 2

Alright neighbors, it’s the first weekend in a bit that it’s not going to feel like 100 degrees and we are here for it. Sharing just a few ideas to soak up the sunny summer weekend ahead:

C208467F-95DE-49B4-AA1B-E64B969C9AF3-84263B0D-1AAF-44CE-A772-0618AD8EA73D.jpg

Around Town-01.png

The Hyde: The Hyde is re-opening on August 1st! It’ll be by appointment only, and they’re offering a limited number of appointment slots per day to keep things safe and socially distanced for visitors. It’ll be so nice to wander the museum on a weekend afternoon again, and we can’t wait to see their newest exhibition, “J.S. Wooley, Adirondack Photographer”. Perfect for summer. Details here

Summer at West Mountain: In case you missed it, we shared a recap of our recent visit to West here (spoiler alert: it was a blast). If you’re headed that way, use promo code wmbl for 10% off your Mountaintop Picnic Package (which also includes the scenic chair ride and hiking!) - book it here!

countryside-01.png

Cambridge Valley Fine Art Tour: After having had the best time on the Open Studios Tour last summer, we were psyched to see this event pop up on our Facebook feed - another opportunity to meet some amazingly talented local artists and hopefully scoop up a painting while we’re at it! Get the details here

While you’re out that way, another incredibly talented Washington County artist, Jacob Houston, will have a contact free pop-up shop set up at his home in Greenwich on non-rainy days where you can grab his latest cards and prints - details here!

Round House Bakery: While you’re in Cambridge, you may notice that the beloved Round House Bakery Cafe has closed. The good news is that the owners are still offering meals to go, fresh from their farm in Cambridge! You can order online for Sunday pickup (deadline to order is Friday evening), and it looks like they’ve got an amazing selection of bread, salads, pizzas, and treats (our favorite has always been the Ginger Spice cookies!). Details here

Have a great weekend!

The Weekender:

BBQ, Brews, and Baseball: The world might seem a little off lately, but hey, baseball is back!!! To celebrate, Northway Brewing Co. is hosting Brooks’ House of BBQ from 12-8pm. Grab some BBQ and a beer and catch a game on their projector screen. Tom is always raving about Brooks from his Hartwick College glory days, so I’m sure he’ll be first in line. Details here

Bluegrass Brunch: We haven’t been to Farmstead Flatbread yet this year, but we drove by last weekend and saw Saratoga Strings Band playing out on the patio and it reminded us of their fun Sunday brunches - adding to our list! Here are the details

Let’s All Fight: The Chapman Museum is officially open and their new exhibit “Let’s All Fight” features a collection of WWII Home Front Posters. If you go, consider bringing a donation for Operation Adopt a Soldier (you can find a list of needed items here). Grab the details on the new exhibit and The Chapman here!

back roads-01.png

Berry Picking: Have you been yet?! We’re heading out for a third time this weekend - we’ve been to Stu-berry and Winney’s already, and I think Hicks is calling our name this weekend (the cider donuts may have something to do with it). As promised, we published a roundup of favorite blueberry farms to try if you’re thinking about going - check that out here. Happy picking!

Darling Doughnuts: Mark your calendars! Our friends at Darling Doughnuts are opening their storefront in Saratoga next Wednesday, July 29! We’re excited to get our paws on some of our favorites again and of course, see the new space. Congrats, Natascha! Details here. (And if you missed it last year, see our My Glens Falls interview with Natascha here!).

Have a great weekend!

The Weekender: July 17 - 19

Hey there and happy weekend! It’s gonna be a hot one, and we’re ready to roll. Here’s what’s doin’:

Drive-In: Yesss - the reopening everyone has been waiting for. The Glen Drive-In is officially reopening tomorrow (Friday) night, and their movie selection could not be better. Goonies, Gremlins, Jaws, and Jurassic Park. Summer at its finest. Pass the popcorn! Details here

Common Roots: And another reopening everyone has been waiting for! We’re psyched to see that Common Roots is open in their original location and we can’t wait to check out the amazing new space. They’re open for beer to-go at this point, but stay tuned here for news on the introduction of on-site drafts and food in the coming weeks!

Rotary 5K: Have you signed up for the Rotary (Virtual) 5K yet? You’ll run the 3.11 miles on your own and the funds raised from the event go to a great cause (Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Southern Adirondacks and World Awareness Children’s Museum). Sign up here and you can run anytime from July 17 - 26!

Road Trip: We’re heading out to Granville this weekend for a little antique hunting (here’s one of the sales if you’re interested!), and we’re hoping to hit a few of our favorites while we’re there. If you’re looking for a little road trip this weekend, check out our mini travel guide to Granville for the best place to grab breakfast, cider donuts, an awesome beer, and lots more - check it out here (a couple of updates for summer: go blueberry + cherry picking at Hicks / Second Chance Barn is closed this summer).

Garden Picnic: Have you been up to Fort Ticonderoga in a while? We went up last summer, and while Tom was all about the history, I can’t stop thinking about how pretty the King’s Garden is. If you’re looking for an amazing picnic spot this weekend, just steps away from Lake Champlain, that’s your place. See more here

Have a great weekend!
Bri + Tom

The Weekender: July 10 - 12

Happy weekend! How’s it going? Planning on tearing yourself away from the air conditioning anytime soon? Can’t say we are, but here are a few things tempting us this weekend ;)

downtown-01.png

Big news - Craft on 9 will be open for lunch starting this Friday and Saturday at 11:30am! Sign me up for a grilled cheese and frites! And in other exciting restaurant news, Gourmet Cafe reopens next Wednesday - yay!

Fair food and classic cars - a perfect pair! There’s a Food Truck Corral and Classic Car Cruise-In at the Washington County Fairgrounds on Saturday, and if the rain holds off, this sounds like a perfect afternoon ride for us in the Wagoneer (and even if the rain doesn’t hold off, good news - the event runs every Saturday in July!). Grab the details here.

Heading south this weekend? Two fun ideas for you!

First, have you ever been to June Farms? It’s one of our favorite spots in the region - a gorgeous farm, the cutest animals, and a snack and cocktail bar that just so happens to be in a beautiful barn. Highly recommend! Kiddos are welcome during the day, but most evenings are 21+. Grab the scoop here!

Another favorite off the Northway - Vischer Ferry General Store. Amazing food, perfectly curated shopping, and sweetest atmosphere. Grab food to go and enjoy on their patio, or reserve one of their cruiser bikes for a bike picnic in the nearby Vischer Ferry Preserve. Details here!

Enjoy the weekend!
Bri + Tom

P.S. Missing 5K races this year? We are too! Good news - the Rotary Club of Glens Falls, Rotary 5K is moving ahead as a virtual race later this month, meaning you’ll run the 3.11 miles on your own and bonus - the funds raised from the event go to a great cause (Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Southern Adirondacks and World Awareness Children’s Museum). Sign up here and you can run anytime from July 17 - 26. Thinking we’d better dust off the sneaks this weekend to prepare ;)

The Weekender: July 3 - 5

Happy 4th of July weekend! While it’ll be a little different this year, we’re excited to make the most of it and hope you are too. We’ve got big plans for blueberry pie, drinks on the back porch, and maybe hanging out in the closet with our dog while he panics about the fireworks ;) Other than that, here’s what looks good:

Around Town: West Mountain opens for the summer this weekend! The aerial adventure park, mountain biking, and hiking sound like a blast, but the scenic chairlift ride and picnic package sound awfully nice on this hot day. Get the scoop here!

Back Roads: It’s blueberry picking season! We were psyched to see that Winney’s Blueberry Farm in Schuylerville is opening for the season this Saturday and we can smell the blueberry pie already. Grab their details here and stay tuned for a roundup of berry farms to visit within the next week or so - happy picking!

At the Lake: As with most events this year, the Lake George Land Conservancy’s Hike-A-Thon has decided to go virtual. Here’s the gist: get out for a hike on Sunday, July 5 - whether in your neighborhood or your favorite mountain trail - and share a photo on social with the hashtag #LGHikeAThon2020 and #HikeLakeGeorge. Check out this list of LGLC’s parks and preserves for some great hike ideas - happy trails!

In the Mountains: Have you ever hiked in to Camp Santanoni up in the Adirondacks? It’s one of the surviving Great Camps on the shore of Newcomb Lake and it is a beauty. It’s about a five mile walk along a carriage road from the parking lot to the Main Lodge on the lake, and this Sunday they’ll be offering special tours focused on the staff that made Santanoni a fabulous retreat back in the day - details here.

Enjoy the weekend and Happy 4th!

The Weekender: June 26 - 28

Happy Thursday, neighbors! What’s doing this weekend? We’re putting together a raised bed so that we can get even more veggies and flowers planted - well, maybe. Just saw the rainy forecast! But hey, Friday looks beautiful, so back porch drinks are certainly in order - and hopefully a few of these:

Doc's Restaurant Glens Falls NY

Doc’s is Back: Another downtown fav is reopening this weekend! We love the patio at Doc’s and they’ll be open for outdoor dining on Friday and Saturday - with live music to boot! Have you been? They’re suggesting reservations - so grab your table here.

Around Town: Congrats are in order for our Glens Falls graduates! If you’re interested in cheering them on from afar - you know, virtually - Glens Falls City School will be live streaming Friday’s Diploma Ceremony at 9:30am and the Commencement Ceremony at 7:30pm on their Facebook page - here’s the link. Congrats to the Class of 2020!

Back Roads: You guessed it - another barn sale :) This time at one of our favorite Washington County spots - Gardenworks Farm. Here’s the scoop on the sale, and while you’re out that way, do yourself a favor and pop into R.S. Taylor just up the road for a beer. Actually, you may just find us sitting out there tomorrow afternoon ;)

On the Lake: Have you guys been watching Summer Rush on The Food Network? We’re hoping to catch up this weekend… Anyway, the show features The Foy Family and their three family restaurants in Bolton Landing - Cate’s Italian Garden, The Chateau on the Lake, and Diamond Point Grille. Hoping to take a ride up to try one (or all three!) sometime soon! If you go, check out a few more of our Bolton favorites here.

Have a great weekend!

The Weekender: June 19-21

Happy weekend and Happy Father’s Day! How was your week? We’ve been soaking up the summer weather and enjoying puttering around in our makeshift backyard garden - we clipped our first little zinnia bouquet last night and we’re seeing a few tomatoes start to take shape - it’s the summer of the garden, for sure. Are you guys spending lots of time in the yard too?

It’s going to be a hot one this weekend - here’s what’s on our radar:

At Restaurants - INSIDE!: Who knew that would be something we’d ever be typing with excitement?! That’s right friends, you can now enjoy indoor dining at your favorite restaurants. Though with this weather, we’re pretty sure everyone will still be lining up for patio dining! Where are you headed this weekend?

do-01.png

Strawberry Picking: ‘Tis the season! The perfect socially distanced activity with the reward of a perfect summer dessert! We’ve heard of two strawberry farms open for picking - Ariel’s Farm in Gansevoort and Hand Melon Farm in Greenwich. Any others? The big question now - strawberry shortcake or strawberry rhubarb pie?

Barn Sales: Oh, how we’ve missed our afternoons out treasure hunting at antique sales! Here’s one in Hudson Falls (Friday only) that you won’t want to miss (we went to the early bird sale today and it was packed with great finds!).

For Dad, Of Course: Here are just a few ideas from local shops that we stumbled across while perusing Instagram:

Enjoy your weekend!

The Weekender: June 12 - 14

Happy weekend! In addition to washing the pollen off the car for the eighth time this week, here’s what else we’re hoping to get to:

Craft on 9 is Back: Psyched to see that Craft on 9 is back up and running as of today (Thursday)! Looks like they’ll have takeout as well as limited outdoor seating (first come, first served). Can’t wait to get our hands on their summer cocktails to go, too! Grab the details here.

…and Juicin’ Jar is too: Yay! Summer smoothies, here we come. They’ll be open 9-2 Tuesday thru Friday - find them here.

Downtown: Hoping to get back into our summer Saturday morning routine this weekend - which includes hopping on our bikes and cruising down to the Farmers Market. Get the details on the market here!

At the Lake: The weather looks awesome this weekend, and if you’re looking to get out on the water, we saw that Lake George Steamboat Company is setting sail again starting Saturday! Grab the scoop here.

Back Roads: If you’re up for a scenic Friday night ride out to the Washington County Fairgrounds, they’ve got a Food Truck Corral happening with BBQ, sweet treats and more (pre-order or walk-up ordering available!) - grab the details here!

Inactivewear for a Good Cause: The gang at Fountain Square Outfitters and Trampoline Design have teamed up to create the perfect activewear for … inactivity! With designs like “Laundry Mountain” and “Backyard Outing Club”, they’re perfect for all of the extra time we’re spending at home these days. And bonus - all proceeds will be donated to the Glens Falls Hospital Foundation in appreciation of frontline responders. Browse the collection and shop here!

Enjoy the weekend!
Bri + Tom

P.S. In case you missed it, here’s this week’s news.

The Weekender: June 5 - 7

The weekend is upon us, and apparently, so is outdoor dining! We’re rounding up the restaurants, breweries, and wineries that are opening up with outdoor seating this weekend (…oh, and retail too!). Cheers!

Here’s a quick list of Glens Falls restaurants that will have patios open this weekend:

Here’s a rundown of breweries with outdoor seating this weekend:

  • Mean Max | Glens Falls: Outside seating open starting today!

  • Adirondack Brewery | Lake George: Outdoor seating will open starting Friday at 11:30am.

  • Argyle Brewing | Greenwich + Cambridge: Beer gardens at both locations will be open starting today, along with food trucks open at each.

  • Ledge Rock Hill Winery | Corinth: Open for outdoor tastings and small plates on Saturday and Sunday from 12-3pm.

  • Northway Brewing | Queensbury: Outdoor seating open starting today.

  • R S Taylor & Sons Brewery | Salem: Open for outdoor seating starting today - bring your own lawn chairs or picnic blanket!

  • SlickFin Brewing | Fort Edward: The patio is open starting today.

Retail is starting to open too! Here are some shops that are open this weekend downtown:

Enjoy the weekend,
Bri + Tom

The Weekender: May 29 - 31

This is it! The last weekend in May. Summer is just around the corner, and things seem to be looking up (and opening up?!) around here. We’ll take it. We’re hoping the rain moves through quickly tomorrow so we can soak up the weekend much like last weekend (wasn’t that weather the best?!). Here are a few ideas:

Picnic: I know, we tell you to grab something to go every weekend. But how about grabbing something to go from a downtown restaurant and taking it to City Park for a socially distanced picnic?! We’ve seen some couples and families safely taking advantage of this pretty downtown space, sitting on picnic blankets and chairs, and it just seems very Hometown USA, doesn’t it? If it doesn’t rain, we’re hoping to give this a try!

*Ahem, a friendly disclaimer: Make sure you’re considerate of the city’s current guidelines when it comes to parks and picnics - like only picnicking with members of your household and wearing a mask if you’re within six feet of others - read more on that here.

Take a Hike: We’re hoping to finally get out for our first hike of the season this weekend! A few of our go-to trails are closed for the time being due to crowding (like The Pinnacle, for example), so we’re thinking about some other local options, like Sleeping Beauty, Buck, (edited to add: just heard these trails have been very crowded!), Cat Mountain, or Hadley (and would love if you have any lesser known suggestions!). If you’re getting out, check out these Leave No Trace tips for hiking during Covid, especially avoiding times and places of high use!

Build Something: A little extra time on Pinterest has our list of “things to build” growing, but we finally tackled the first project last weekend: building a flower box for our bay window! We used this tutorial, and it was fairly quick and easy, and definitely a rewarding way to spend an afternoon. Would love to see photos of yours if you build one too!

do-01.png

Backyard Americana: We’ve been inspired to see lots of fun backyard (and front yard!) activities happening around the neighborhood - slip and slides, running through sprinklers, little red wagons filled with gardening supplies, folks enjoying a good book or drinks on their front porches, couples and families riding by on their cruiser bikes. It kinda makes us want to buy a few of those classic aluminum folding lawn chairs and have a popsicle in the afternoon sun ;) If there’s one thing this pandemic has taught us, it’s to appreciate the little things. Hope you can fit a few simple pleasures in this weekend, too.

Have a great weekend,
Bri + Tom

The Weekender: May 22-24

Memorial Day Weekend! We’re ever so grateful, today and every day, for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We’re wishing we could commemorate the weekend like we usually do, with parades, ceremonies, cookouts with family. But let’s make the most of this whole thing, shall we? Here are a few things we’re getting up to this weekend:

Grilling Season: It’s time to dust off the grill! We’re looking forward to cooking out this weekend, but we’re also psyched to see so many options popping up from our local favs for bbq to go! We spotted Memorial Day Weekend offerings at The Queensbury Hotel, Radici, Farmacy, Morgan & Co, and more. Get ‘em while they’re hot!

Also, Ice Cream Season: Good news - the Cooper’s Cave Ice Cream window opens today! A ride on the bike path and a cone to go sounds like the perfect afternoon to us. Grab the scoop (pun intended) here.

Beer, Delivered: Have you guys been taking advantage of beer delivery? Tom is soaking this up while it lasts (and hoping it’s one of the things that sticks after this is all behind us). I mean, what’s better than having beer delivered to your front door on a Friday afternoon? ;) Check out Mean Max, Common Roots, and Slickfin Brewing. Cheers!

Stroll the Orchard: Hicks Orchard is open this weekend and the trees are in full bloom! They’ll have the orchards open for strolling and the apple barn open for cider donuts and hard cider on Saturday and Sunday from 10-4…sign us up! Details here.

If You’re Heading to the Lake…: Here’s a great roundup of what’s up and running this weekend on and around Lake George - it includes the opening of some beaches (like Million Dollar Beach), boat and kayak rentals, golf, hiking, and take-out from local restaurants. That said, here’s our usual disclaimer: be safe, wear your mask, practice social distancing, and be prepared to change plans if there’s a big crowd.

Memorial Day: We’re so bummed that the parade is cancelled this year, but thrilled to hear that the City of Glens Falls will still be holding a small remembrance ceremony. The public is asked not to attend, however, it’ll be streamed live on YouTube at 10am on Monday - here’s the link to their channel.

Enjoy the weekend!
Bri + Tom

P.S. In case you missed it, Gordon shared this week’s Hometown News roundup last night - read it here.

The Weekender: May 15 - 17

It’s 70 degrees, the weekend is in sight, and we’ve got big plans…to build some raised beds for our garden. Just another activity to check off the list of quarantine clichés (you know, like organizing the closet, baking bread, playing Yahtzee…). We digress.

We’re just as bummed as you are to have heard about all of the summer cancellations this week, so here are a few things that aren’t cancelled for this weekend:

City Park Glens Falls NY

Ice Cream: Yep, Martha’s and Rob and Deb’s are both opening this weekend! We’re sharing this suggestion in a hushed whisper because there’s a decent chance that EVERYONE will be headed out for ice cream this weekend, so, our disclaimer alert: be safe, wear your mask, practice social distancing, and be prepared to change plans if there’s a huge crowd. And most of all, enjoy your ice cream! You’ve earned it ;)

Cocktails to Go: We just saw that Radici Kitchen is now offering cocktails to go - yes, please! By the way, if you haven’t tried their take-out yet, click here to check out some of our favorites - perfect for a porch date night!

Adirondack Theatre Festival: Okay, so the in person event is indeed canceled (agh!) BUT we are psyched to hear that they’ll still be offering an On Demand option! This cancelation is a huge bummer for downtown as well, as it always draws so many folks who patronize other businesses before and after the shows. Check out their On Demand offering here and consider making a donation if you’re in a position to do so - it will support ATF in this off-season, you’ll get access to cool content, and bonus - $25 of every donation will go towards purchasing a gift card to the local restaurant or shop of your choosing. Win-win.

Food Truck Corral: Not this weekend, but we wanted to give you a heads up that the Food Truck Corral at The Shirt Factory is back (with lots of new precautions in place!) next Thursday, May 21 from 4-8pm. Sounds like they’ll have a website for pre-order / pre pay / curbside pickup going live in the next few days, so stay tuned on their Facebook page for updates!

Have a great weekend!
Bri + Tom

The Weekender: May 8 - 10

Happy weekend! We’re going to pretend we didn’t see the snow in the forecast for tomorrow night and continue to dream about the blue skies, sunshine, and tulips in bloom. The weather seems to be shaping our days (or is it our moods?) wayyy more than usual during this time, but either way, our weekend plans are usually the same - work on projects around the house ;) That said, here are a few other things on our radar this weekend:

Glens Falls NY

Mother’s Day Brunch: We’re sure there will be many a delicious brunch prepared at home this weekend, but if you’re not in the mood to cook, a few local favorites are offering brunch to-go options - check out Morgan and Company (dreaming about their coffee cake), farmacy (hellooo brioche french toast!), and Rachel’s Cafe and Spice Company (cinnamon rolls to go - yes please).

Quarantine Cocktails: All this staying at home stuff has us eager to get a little more creative with drinks at home, and we just saw that Doc’s Restaurant has started a Cocktail Series on Facebook and Instagram where they share recipes for classic and craft cocktails a couple times a week. We can’t wait to whip up The Paloma this weekend - check out their recipe here!

For Mom, of course: Shopping small is more important than ever, so here are just a few ideas from local shops (offering curbside pickup!) that we stumbled across while perusing Instagram:

Everything and Nothing: Color a #colorglensfalls coloring page (download all four for free here!), catch up on watching The Wood Theater’s Virtual Talent Show (watch here - so many great entries!), read a book (I’m (Bri) just finishing this one), build a window box for summer flowers.

Lastly, Happy Mother’s Day! Sending warm wishes to all the moms, soon-to-be moms, hopefully someday moms, dog moms, cat moms, and all the special ladies in between.

Have a great weekend,
Bri + Tom

P.S. Did you catch the first edition of Hometown News with our new contributor Gordon Woodworth this week? Find out the latest from Glens Falls Hospital, what next steps are with the school districts (and graduations!) and more - read it here.

The Weekender: May 1 - 3

Happy weekend! We did a double take when looking at the dates for this post - it’s MAY! As chaotic as the world is right now, seeing everything come into bloom over the past week has been strangely comforting. Green buds on the trees, tulips popping up downtown, and even a 60+ degree day - it’s been a spirit lifter, for sure. The weather app says sunshine and warm weather for this weekend, so we hope you’re able to get out (you know, to your porch or backyard) and enjoy it. Here are a few things that are on our radar:

Glens Falls City Park

Margaritas, Chips + Guac: Cinco de Mayo is Tuesday, and there couldn’t be a better day for one of our downtown favorites, Raul’s, to re-open for take-out. We have a sneaking suspicion that their phone will be ringing off the hook! Follow them here for the latest on their updated hours and how to order.

Whiskey Spritz: Did you catch our Happy Hour with [farmacy] last week? Jon shared a quick and easy recipe for a Whiskey Spritz, and all of a sudden we’re inspired to take our at home cocktail game up a notch. If you’re in the mood for a drink this weekend, give it a try - watch here.

Face Masks: Who would’ve thought a couple months ago that I’d be browsing the internet for cute face masks? MinkyMink has you covered (pun intended) and it looks like they’re getting a re-stock in this week. Grab the details here!

All Things Garden: One of our Washington County favorites, Gardenworks, is re-opening this weekend (with safety in mind!), and their plant list has us even more inspired to get started on our backyard garden. Check out what they have in stock and see all of their details here.

Online Classes: I know, who in their right mind is thinking about classes right now? Staying at home will do that to you ;) SUNY Adirondack Continuing Ed is offering 10 free online classes for professional development, and since we’re always looking for the latest and greatest tips, we can’t wait to check a few of them out (especially those geared toward small businesses!). Find them here.

P.S. In case you missed it, we checked in with both Lisa Camp and Tricia Rogers this week - find them here.

The Weekender: April 24-26

Happy Thursday! We’re back with another exciting edition of The Weekender, live from the living room. We’ve had to get a little more creative with our weekend activities these days, but we came up with a few good ones (or at least we think so) - watch or read the summary below! What are you up to this weekend?

#ColorGlensFalls Coloring Sheets: The most relaxing activity of the week. Download here!

Gardening: We planted pansies this week, and if you’re up for adding a little color to your porch too, Binley’s and Garden Time both look to have a great selection (and a safe shopping / pick-up experience, too!).

Yard Work: We’re still raking. Also, PSA: the city is only picking up bagged yard waste until social distancing / staff reductions change. Follow them on IG for these types of announcements.

Call your Grandma: Or your Grandpa, your Aunt, your long lost pal - call someone you haven’t called in a while. Tell them you’re thinking of them. You’ll feel better after, promise.

The Weekender: April 10 - 12

It’s Thursday (just in case you needed reminding like we did!), and although it’ll be a little different this year, we’re looking forward to the Easter weekend ahead just the same. We’re popping in to share a few ideas for your agenda this weekend, and despite the heaviness and uncertainty around us, we’re hoping you can enjoy the weekend connecting with loved ones (virtually!), celebrating the little things, and maybe indulging in a jelly bean or two :)

Farmers Market: We’re so grateful for the essential workers keeping food stocked at our local grocery stores and farmers markets, and we’re hoping to pop in to the Glens Falls Farmers Market this weekend - yes, they’re still open! They’ve moved outside to the Sanford Street School parking lot and have put measures into place to ensure social distancing. Some farmers have even added the option for an online pre-order, so that you can get in and out quickly (grab the details on their Facebook page).

Gardening: Well, I’ll tell you one thing, our desire to have a garden has grown about 1000% since all of this started. We were excited to see that Garden Time in Queensbury is open and offering the option to call ahead with your order and they’ll coordinate a no-contact pick up (check out the details here) - can’t wait to pick up some goods to start our veggie garden. In the mean time, I’m studying every page of this beautiful book to grab all of the tips for this summer’s flower garden.

Easter Brunch + Dinner: We’re going to miss getting together with our families for brunch so much this year, but we’re all planning to brunch together virtually on Sunday morning via Zoom (we’ll be making our favorite blueberry crumb cake - find that recipe here!). We’ve also seen some restaurants offering Easter dinner to-go (The Queensbury Hotel and Morgan and Company to name a couple). And by the way, you can check in on your other favorite local businesses here.
