Comedy After Dark: Date night! Grab dinner downtown and then head over to The Park Theater for Comedy After Dark on Friday at 8pm. New York comedian Gabe Mollica brings his hit Off-Broadway comedy show “Solo” to Glens Falls, exploring male friendship in his 30s. Grab tickets here.

Five Years of WorkSmart: WorkSmart Coworking and Meeting Space is celebrating five years in operation this week! The renovation they completed on the historic downtown building is amazing, which makes for a pretty inspiring place to work! Potato Picking: This season is all about the apple picking, yes, but have you ever been potato picking? Goose Island Potatoes in Argyle has U-pick this weekend if you’d like to give it a go! Here are the details. Pass the mashed potatoes, please!

Adirondack Balloon Festival: No surprise here! We’ll be up before the sun both days (hopefully the weather cooperates!) and can’t wait to see those hot air balloons take flight as the sun comes up. Get all the details, schedule, and the all important directions and parking info here.

 

Wool & Arts Festival: Another festival this weekend! The Adirondack Wool and Arts Fest is held at the Washington County Fairgrounds and features over 100 local artisans and their crafts, including wool, pottery, wood, and lots more. Plus - craft beverages and all your fav festival foods. Details here!

Find the Wine: A corn maze - the quintessential fall activity - but this time, there’s wine! As you make your way through the maze at Schuyler Farms, you’ll come across wine tasting stations. Sign us up! Grab the details and your tickets here.

Apple Picking: Have you been yet? We picked our apples last weekend but that doesn’t stop us from visiting more of our favorite orchards to indulge in a few more cider donuts! Here’s a list of farms to try here.

The Weekender: September 15 - 17

Feels like fall! Slowly giving in to autumn activities this weekend, starting with apple picking! Here are a few other things that caught our eye:

 
 
 
 
 

Sunflower Fest: Yup, we shared this last week, but the sunflower field is now in full bloom at Dancing Grain Farm Brewery in Moreau, and it’s a sight to behold! Grab a drink and enjoy the view. Details here.

Shred Day: Not the most exciting thing on the list, but actually maybe it is? :) The Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce is hosting their Annual Community Shred Day on Saturday from 9-11am. Don’t know about you but we’ve got a box or two of things that need to be shredded and we’re pretty excited to get rid of them! It’s free with the donation of at least one non-perishable food item per shred box to benefit The Open Door Mission. Details here.

 

Fire Pit with a View: The Fort William Henry is offering fire pit rentals this season! Cozy up around the fire with a view of the lake and a s’more, along with a dedicated server to grab your drinks. Sounds great to us! Learn more and make your reservation here.

 
 

Apple Picking: ‘Tis the season! We’re headed out for our first round of picking this weekend, and if you’re going to, here’s a roundup of our favorite local apple orchards and any changes for this season (lots of orchards either lost their crop or have a reduced crop due to a late frost this year). Quality Time With Your Pup: This week was a really tough one for us, as our beloved yellow lab, Max, passed away. In Max’s honor, we’d love to suggest spending a little extra quality time with your pup (or any pet, for that matter) this weekend. Give in to another five minutes of belly rubs, extend your walk an extra block or two, or play a few more rounds of fetch. And please give them an extra pat from us. There’s nothing like the unconditional love of a dog.

Sunflower Fest: It’s that time! The sunflower blooms are just starting to open at Dancing Grain Farm Brewery in Moreau, so this weekend they will be showing off their sunflower field in addition to their craft brews! Details here.

Vette Fest: If Corvettes are your thing, you’ll want to check out Vette Fest this Sunday from 10am-2pm on Maple Street between The Queensbury Hotel and City Park. Details here!

 

The Cheese (+ Wine + Beer) Tour: Have you ever gone on the Cheese Tour? It’s a self-guided tour through the gorgeous back roads of Washington County - with an opportunity to visit (and sample!) at cheesemaking farms, a brewery, and a winery, and more. Here are the details!

Rewind at The Park: Get to The Park Theater on Saturday night for ‘Rewind At The Park’ featuring Big Eyed Phish - the only touring full 8-piece Dave Matthews Band Tribute in the country! Doors open at 7:30 - grab your tickets here!

End of Summer Stuff: Now’s the time, people! The Arts: Lots happening with the arts this weekend! LARAC has two shows opening this Friday: Running Towards A Place, featuring Gary Zack and Christopher Smith, which opens at 5pm at Lapham Gallery, and Oakroom Artists, featuring works by the Oakroom Artists, which opens at 6pm at Mountain Gallery. Details on those here. And that’s not all folks! North Country Arts has their Small Works Show Exhibition Opening on Saturday at 5pm - those details are here!

Fort Fest: Head to Slickfin Brewing Company in Fort Edward this weekend from 12pm - 10pm for - you guessed it - Fort Fest! Bands, beer, food, and memories - need we ask for more? There is more actually! Evergreen Bicycle Works is hosting a slow social bike ride through Downtown Fort Edward and the Champlain Canalway Trail / Empire State Trail at 10am! Sunset Limited: All aboard the Sunset Limited Beer & Wine Train! Washington County Antique Fair: We brake for barn sales and antique shops, always, so it’s no surprise that the Washington County Antique Fair is high on our list this weekend. We’re looking forward to strolling the Fairgrounds (giant bag of kettle corn in hand, of course), and seeing what kinds of treasures await. More info here!

Antique Weekend at The Farm Store at Tiashoke: Did you catch our First Look at The Farm Store at Tiashoke last fall (here’s the link for a refresher!)? They’ve filled the barn’s basement with antiques this year, and this weekend they’re hosting an Antique Festival, complete with additional antique vendors, local makers and bakers, a food truck, and an antique car show on Sunday from 11am-2pm! Philadelphia Orchestra at SPAC: The Philadelphia Orchestra opened their 2023 residency at SPAC last night! If you’ve never been to a performance, we’d highly recommend it - we went last night and had the most wonderful time. Golden hour, a stroll through the State Park to the Amphitheater, a glass of wine, and the most beautiful music echoing through the air. Their residency runs through August 19, and includes fun shows like Harry Potter in Concert and Jurassic Park in Concert - scoop up your tickets here!

 
 

Lake George Music Festival: Speaking of beautiful music, the Lake George Music Festival kicks off this weekend as well! Taking place in the newly renovated Carriage House at the Fort William Henry, the Festival offers the opportunity to experience exceptional classical music within a historic and picturesque setting, overlooking the Lake. Concerts in the Park: The Park Theater’s Summer Concert Series is back this summer, and they’re kicking off the series with a special night at The Barn at French Mountain featuring Dr. Funke’s 100% Good Time Natural Family Band on Friday, June 16 from 7-8:30pm. Find the details here, and stay tuned for the rest of the series which will be held at Crandall Park!

Aloha 5K: It’s not too late to sign up for Glens Falls Hospital’s Aloha 5K and 1 Mile Fun Walk to benefit Amanda’s House (find out a bit more about Amanda’s House and its positive impact on the community in our recent story here). It’s scheduled for Saturday, June 17 at Haviland’s Cove Park with an off-street course winding along the Feeder Canal. Warren Street Walking Tour: Thrilled to see that The Chapman Museum is offering a series of walking tours on Fridays this summer! The Warren Street tour on Friday at 11am will span from St. Mary’s Church to the Hyde Collection with a look at the important figures who lived here and their contributions to the success of the city and region. Feeder Canal Alliance Community Day: Join the Feeder Canal Alliance for a free community fun event on Saturday from 11am-2pm at Haviland Cove Park. Bring the kiddos for activities including rock painting and “building” a canal boat, and while you’re there find out more about the plans to plans to improve areas of the Towpath Trail and the Canal. Sunday Farmer’s Market: Head to West Mountain on Sundays this summer (through September 3) for their First Annual Summer Farmer's Market from 9am-12pm! Looks like they’ll also have their summer activities up and running, including scenic chairlift rides, mountaintop picnic packages, and more - get the details here!

And as always you can shop the Glens Falls Farmer’s Market downtown on Saturdays from 8am-12pm.

Dragons Baseball: Head to East Field this weekend to catch the first couple of games of the season for the Glens Falls Dragons! Their home opener is Friday night at 7pm, and you can also catch them on Sunday at 7pm - find out more here!

Pups and Pints: What could be better? Head to Common Roots this Sunday from 12-2pm to meet some sweet adoptable pups from Lucky Puppy Rescue and enjoy a craft beer or two - get the details here.

Glens Falls Pride Festival: Pop down to City Park on Sunday, June 4th, from 12-4pm for the Pride Festival, hosted by Lower Adirondack Pride, whose mission it is to support the LGBTQ+ community of Glens Falls and the Lower Adirondack Region. They’ll have music, vendors, and lots more! Details here.

The Weekender: May 26 - 28

Memorial Day Weekend! We’re looking forward to a long weekend of relaxing with friends and family and hope you are too! Here are a few things that caught our eye:

 
 
 

Memorial Day Parades: We’re so grateful to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and it’s always wonderful to see all of the events in their honor. Of course, no Memorial Day would be complete without taking in the annual Glens Falls Memorial Day parade, which begins downtown and makes it’s way down Glen Street at 10am on Monday (grab those details here). And if you’re really in a parade state of mind this weekend, head just over the bridge for the South Glens Falls Parade on Friday night at 6pm, starting at Main and Haviland and running north to Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Comedy After Dark: Grab dinner downtown and head over to The Park Theater for Comedy After Dark on Friday at 8pm. As seen on NBC, FX and more, Jim Tews has two live albums that have debuted in the top three comedy titles on the iTunes charts. Grab tickets for his show at The Park here.

Memorial Day Market + Party: Have you been to Springbrook Hollow Farm Distillery in Queensbury? This weekend marks their 8th anniversary and they’re celebrating with a party - summer cocktails, live music, delicious bbq and local artisan vendors. Sounds right up our alley! Grab the scoop here.

The Outcrops at Dancing Grain: There’s a full weekend of brews and views on tap at Dancing Grain Farm Brewery in Moreau, and on Saturday night they’ve got blues, soul, and rock and roll band, The Outcrops, performing at 5:30pm, along with burgers from Burger 21 - details here!

Dahlia Workshop on The Farm: Calling all dahlia lovers - The Farm Store at Tiashoke is hosting a dahlia workshop on Saturday at 10am! Dinner and a Show: Date night! Grab dinner downtown on Friday night (on the new outdoor patio at Park and Elm, maybe?) and then pop over to The Park Theater for a performance by Corner House at 7pm. Hailing from Portland, Maine, their sound incorporates old time, Scottish, progressive bluegrass, and folk. Grab tickets here.

Pet Fest: Calling all pet lovers! This Saturday from 9am-2pm, bring your pups to City Park for interactive training demonstrations, a talent show, a puppy parade, vendors, and more - details here!

Community Scavenger Hunt: Join the Tri-County United Way in celebrating their 100th Birthday on Saturday with a virtual scavenger hunt (details here!) and a celebration in City Park from 4-6pm with food trucks, a beer garden at The Q, activities for the kiddos and more - details on that here!
